Reveal - SJ Designs Jewelry Honey Do List March Design Challenge!

I had so much fun last month doing the Honey Do List Challenge, put forth by SJ Designs Jewelry, that I decided to play again this month!

This month's challenge was all about moving away from colorful designs, instead finding the beauty in black and white:

Not my picture!
Originally from SJ Design Jewelry.

Now, I had so many grand plans about what I wanted to make based on this inspiration--focusing on textures instead of colors, playing around with a limited palette...

Sadly, though, time got away from me and my plans fell apart.

But! I did make something--a pair of earrings and a necklace--and I figured it would be fun to share.

These are the earrings! They show a little bit of the original direction I was hoping to go. I made the paper beads, which I then paired with vintage Japanese acrylic pearls and lava rock. The focus was on the juxtaposition of the different textures: the smooth pearls, the pitted lava, the striated paper beads.

Now for the necklace.

My original design was more elaborate... A large focal, multiple strands, possibly a tassel. But, in the end, simplicity and lack of time won out, and this is what I made:

Again, I used the paper beads, the lava rock, and the vintage Japanese acrylic.

Honestly, it is very pretty in its simplicity... Not everything has to be a bit statement piece, after all. Just like the color palette, it is understated and still lovely.

So, there you go... That's what I made for this challenge. Thanks so much for stopping by! Be sure to stop by SJ Designs Jewelry blog to see what she made for this challenge!

Happy Monday, everyone!

  2. I'm so impressed that you made those paper beads! My first thought just looking at your pictures was that I've really never seen paper beads in black in white before... they look great! That lava rock is a wonderful choice to echo the texture in the building photo. Thanks so much for playing along with me this month. Check back on April 1st to see what Eric has in store for us next!
